Rest, relaxation & recreation:
Take a stroll along award winning sandy beaches
and inviting promenades for the casual walker. The fantastic views of
North Wales are a perfect start for a day trip out to the local nature
reserve of Hilbre Islands. Once there you can watch the seals at play,
view the wealth of wading and migratory birds or see for yourself the
island's famous dinosaur footprint.
Watch the oyster catchers dig for food as the tide
goes out and see the Spectacular sunsets as
the sun dips from view.
Alternatively walk or cycle the Wirral Way and
enjoy the countryside at one of Wirral's many country parks.
Wander around the many picturesque villages of Wirral:
Thornton Hough, set in lush pastures and fine woodland, is a
fine example of village life. Take a leisurely stroll and admire the buildings,
the gardens and the pastoral peace of the ancient village green. In
1889 the very first Viscount Leverhulme started work on Thornton Hough and
some years later he purchased the mansion of Thornton Manor where he settled
with his family. He built a school, an orphanage, a "Norman" style
church, shops, a club and a smithy. You can still see the smithy at work most
days working under the spreading chestnut tree, or watch a traditional game
of cricket on the village green.
Birkenhead Park - the world's
first ever public park!
This vast parkland, designed by London's
Crystal Palace architect Sir Joseph Paxton, is now undergoing over £10million
worth of investment.
The park became the model for New York's
Central Park, and has 2 lakes, a boathouse, a Swiss bridge and listed Gothic-style
buildings. Indeed, this international flavour is reflected in the spectacular
main entrance, which is modelled on the temple of Illysus in Athens.
Pursue your longing - learn to sail, windsurf or just
enjoy watching others from your seat on a promenade.
Relax and unwind with a quiet drink or meal at
one of the many
Restaurants or bars.
